The Sheridan at Mason, offering assisted living and memory care, fosters a vibrant senior community with amenities and activities that help seniors stay active and engaged with life.
“We want residents to be happy and do what they enjoy,” says
Donna Yuenger, sales counselor for The Sheridan at Mason. “Families like the fact that there are so many planned activities and so much to do.”
The building, which is new and easy to navigate, is open and bright. “It’s like a luxurious hotel,” she says. “It just happens to have nursing assistance if you need them.”
Residents participate in a plethora of activities within the community, ranging from fun games and exercises that help residents stay engaged, to activities that encourage new friendships and facilitate growth and learning. Residents enjoy movies, bingo, board games and cards, along with yoga, chair volleyball and bocce ball, just to name a few. Happy hour is celebrated every day from 4 to 5 p.m.
“We make sure residents have a lot of options for entertainment,” Yuenger says. “So there are always 10 to 12 different scheduled activities each day.”
The Sheridan at Mason offers offers a variety of in-house live entertainment. Musical duos, piano players, saxsophonist and a 16-piece Swing Band, to name a few, visit regularly to entertain residents, their families and guests.
“We also do special large events that everyone enjoys,” says Yuenger. “We recently had a luau, with steel drums, Polynesian dancers and a fire breather, along with a big spread of Hawaiian food!” These events are well attended by residents and family members are always welcome.
Residents can sign up for outings outside the community as well, such as lunch and tours, wine tasting, museums and casino trips. Outings focus on local destinations, such as the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Reds Hall of Fame, but will include locations up to two hours away to accommodate resident requests. “They enjoy seeing and learning new things,” Yuenger says.
Memory care is a secured wing with its own unique activities, designed to keep residents with dementia active. For the “Thymeless” program, residents grow spices and prepare healthy treats. “Essence” uses aromatherapy to help foster well-being. A simulator computer engages residents by offering different activities, such as flying a plane, driving a car or interactive games.
Residents in memory care enjoy live entertainment as well. “Getting residents out of their apartments is our goal,” Yuenger says. “We strive to keep residents active and engaged in doing things they enjoy.”
The Sheridan at Mason boasts many amenities, including a gym, theater, salon, spa room with walk-in jetted tub and massage services, several outside patio areas and a walking path around the building. Depending on availability, residents can choose from one-bedroom, two-bedroom units or studio, all equipped with a kitchenette, full sized refrigerator, and washer and dryer. Weekly personal laundry and housekeeping is included, with daily trash removal and bed making service.
“Our food and activities go above and beyond,” Yuenger says. A chef prepares three meals a day, with two to three entrees to choose from, as well as an Always Available menu.
The Sheridan at Mason is designed so that residents can age in place, with memory care, rehabilitation therapy and hospice care. Families can rest assured that licensed nurses are on staff at all times. With Skynet technology, residents wear a wristband that serves as a room key, GPS tracker and also a call button. By downloading the Sagely app, which is partnered with the Skynet technology, families can use the technology to view their loved one’s participation in activities.
The Sheridan at Mason accepts long term care insurance and VA benefits in addition to private pay.
