MASON, Ohio (May 13, 2022)—Patrick Arp of William Mason High School and Emily Lin of Lakota East High School have been selected to receive the annual UC Health West Chester Hospital Healthcare Scholarship presented by local non-profit MADECDC. Arp and Lin were chosen from a pool of applicants and will each receive a $2,000 scholarship.
“The selection was challenging – all candidates were strong and deserving of this award, but we were all able to agree on Arp and Lin,” said a member of the MADECDC scholarship review committee. “We were quite impressed with their accomplishments, and their personal statements distinctly touched our hearts and had the desire to help them achieve their dreams.”
The scholarship is designed to support the next generation of healthcare workers who are looking to pursue a degree in any healthcare related field. High school seniors who attend a school located in Butler, Hamilton, or Warren Counties, have volunteered at UC Health West Chester Hospital during their junior or senior year of high school, and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for the scholarship. Students are required to submit an essay describing how this scholarship will help them contribute to their community in the future.
“We're very proud to partner with MADE Chamber and MADECDC as we work together to develop the next generation of healthcare professionals for our community,” said Tom Daskalakis, Chief Administrative Officer of West Chester Hospital.
The funds for these scholarships are raised at the annual UC Health West Chester Hospital Fall Classic Golf Outing. The golf outing consists of a partnership with the Mason Deerfield Chamber and the MADECDC to host the Taste of MADE, a main attraction for golfers who enjoy the experience of MADE region restaurants while supporting the next generation of healthcare workers. The event also raises funds for the enhancement of care and services at West Chester Hospital.
Lin told the scholarship review committee, “I am extremely grateful to be receiving this award. I know this will help me immensely as I start my journey to college.” Arp stated, “I'm so happy to receive the UC Health West Chester Hospital Scholarship. I've had the chance to see what working in a hospital is like by volunteering in the Radiology and Spiritual Care departments, and I've met many great people along the way.”
Both recipients will be recognized in front of the community at the Mason Deerfield Chamber’s Annual Lunch which will take place in partnership with MADECDC on Tuesday, May 24.
