Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is pleased to continue their groundbreaking arts education initiative titled PROJECT38 and their signature event Revel and Moonlight. CSC teaching artists have spent over 250 hours this school year working with over 1,600 students at more than 45 different schools to bring each of Shakespeare’s 38 plays to life in creative ways. From April 14-18, 2016 the Cincinnati community had the opportunity to experience these amazing performances at a week-long free festival in downtown Cincinnati! On April 14, there were more than 43 events and nearly 40 hours of free arts events in Washington Park and The Woodward Theater that the entire community was invited too!  Last year, the PROJECT38 Festival drew more than 3,000 people. April 9 was the signature event to support PROJECT38 called Revel and Moonlight.

There were be a myriad of events going on throughout the festival that bring all 38 of Shakespeare’s plays to life in many ways including 18 projects featured performances of exclusively Shakespearean text, 6 incorporated music, 3 explored with dance, 13 incorporated filmmaking, 8 groups used the visual arts, 16 groups created a piece of original work, 2 did research projects, and 1 was told through computer animation!

Audience members and students were given the opportunity to try and see as many of the plays as possible to earn prizes.  There were educational materials available throughout as well as activities and details in the free festival guides.  This festival wass appropriate for audiences of all ages and families with young children were encouraged to attend!

The Woodward Theater served as the home base for the week and was open during all of the festival activities.  Audience members were invited to check in there to get information and learn about upcoming performances.  There was also art installations inside The Woodward Theater related to Shakespeare’s 38 plays.

And, as a bonus treat, Cincinnati Shakespeare’s professional touring ensemble will presented a FREE encore performance of the Shakespeare in the Park touring performance of “Romeo and Juliet” and a premiere of their NEW Midsummer for Elementary Students.
