Mercy Health - Cincinnati, which provides advanced, compassionate, quality care in your neighborhood through its care network, announces that The Jewish Hospital is hosting a free Walk with a Doc program at Kenwood Towne Center twice monthly starting in April.

The walks take place every other Thursday from 9-10 a.m. at the mall, which is located at 7875 Montgomery Road. Walkers will meet at The Jewish Hospital’s Walk with a Doc booth located in front of Anthropologie near Nordstrom’s inside entrance. New walkers get a free t-shirt and a pedometer to log their steps.

The walks are led by a variety of physicians and other health professionals representing a wide array of health, wellness and fitness-related expertise. They start the meeting with a brief and informative talk on their area of specialty before walking. The program is free and does not require pre-registration. The walk schedule follows below:

Mercy Health Physician Barry Brook, MD, who practices from Kenwood Internal Medicine at 4750 East Galbraith Road and is the director of The Jewish Hospital’s internal medicine residency program, leads the first walk from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, April 14. He can answer walkers’ questions about regular health screenings and how to maintain wellness.

Evan Herdeman, a physical therapy supervisor at The Jewish Hospital’s physical therapy location at 4760 East Galbraith Road, leads the walk from 9-10 a.m. on Thursday, April 18. He can answer walkers’ questions on how to avoid injury, when physical therapy is necessary and how physical therapy helps injuries heal.

“I encourage anyone in the community to join The Jewish Hospital’s Walk with a Doc. It’s a great way to get some exercise and tap the brains of some of the finest healthcare professionals in Cincinnati,” said Pat Davis-Hagens, Mercy Health Central Market President and CEO of The Jewish Hospital. ”This program has had tremendous participation and great success in many other cities around the country and The Jewish Hospital is pleased to bring to Cincinnati this exciting and simple program that shows such improved health results for so many people.”

“There’s no question that increasing your exercise, even moderately, reduces your risks for many diseases, including coronary heart disease, breast and colon cancer and Type 2 diabetes,” said Dr. Brook. “Research has even shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour that you exercise regularly and improve your blood pressure and blood sugar levels, help maintain a healthy body weight and lower your risk of obesity, enhance your mental well-being and reduce your risk of osteoporosis.”

“Walk with a Doc is honored to team up with The Jewish Hospital – Mercy Health. By incorporating Walk with a Doc, Mercy Health is demonstrating an exceptional level of caring and commitment to its community”, said Dr. David Sabgir, founder of Walk with a Doc.

Mercy Health - Cincinnati will announce future walks and details will also be available at the Walk with a Doc website, www.walkwithadoc.org.
