In a year that has seen huge stock market swings, economic forecasts whiplashed by up-and-down trade war news, and threats of recession spurred by inverted bond yield curves, Beshear Financial and Northwestern Mutual recently stepped up to keep their clients informed and assured.
Ben Beshear, Managing Director of Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management Company and wealth management advisor for Beshear Financial, invited clients to spend an evening in August with Brent Schutte, the Chief Investment Strategist of Northwestern Mutual.
Schutte guides the investment philosophy for individual retail investors. In over 20 years of investment experience, he has helped investors navigate through booms and busts, from the tech bubble of the late ‘90s to the financial crisis of 2008 – 2009. “An innate sense of investigative curiosity coupled with a healthy dose of natural skepticism help guide my ability to maintain a steady hand in the short term while also preserving a focus on long-term investment plans and financial goals,” Schutte said.
On the night of the event, Schutte spoke to an audience of over 100 clients about various factors at play and their effect on domestic and global economies and markets. Despite market volatility and uncertainty around issues of the day, Schutte emphasized the underlying strength of the economy and market. Record low unemployment, a Federal Reserve sensitive to interest rates, and an active, engaged dialog on trade with parties on all continents support continued optimism. Schutte’s message to investors was,
if you have a plan consistent with your goals, objectives and time horizon, focus on the long-term fundamentals, stay informed but avoid overreacting to daily fluctuations.
Keeping investors informed is a priority at Beshear Financial and Northwestern Mutual. Events such as this strategic update accomplish that and strengthen the relationship between clients and their advisors.
“When people feel confident in their financial plan, they can focus on the things in life that matter more than money,” Beshear said. “Taking away the everyday financial stress that most people experience helps them breathe easier, sleep better, and feel happier. That’s why Northwestern Mutual exists.”
