Dominic Delia originally went to Cedar Village Senior Living Community for short-term rehabilitation therapy. Instead, he ended up finding a home and a whole community of support.
“Dominic’s story speaks to the comprehensive continuum of care that Cedar Village is able to provide through our partnership with CarDon & Associates,” said Mike Mobley, administrator of Cedar Village. “Whether it’s outpatient therapy, a short-term medical stay, or an independent or assisted living apartment home, seniors can find everything they need right here in one place.”
In November of last year, Delia arrived at the community for rehab therapy due to diabetes-related nerve damage in his lower body. He worked with physical therapists on exercises like leg lifts and bends. Occupational therapists helped him with daily tasks, such as showering and putting on socks and shoes. Delia also utilized the state-of-the-art aquatic therapy that Cedar Village has added to its diverse repertoire of care. The community’s unique, high-tech HydroWorx pools employ movable platforms and resistance jets to help residents improve their movement. They also feature underwater cameras that allow therapists to track the residents’ progress.
By April of this year, Delia was up and moving like normal again. But he didn’t want to say goodbye to Cedar Village. “I decided to move to Cedar Village’s assisted living area because I knew I would be well looked after,” Delia said. “During rehab, all of the nurses and aides were always ready to help me at any time. They always made sure my medicine was on time and that my meals arrived warm. They were ready to answer any medical question I had or just talk to me about anything. I knew I wanted to be surrounded by that type of commitment.”
In addition to a devoted staff of caregivers, Delia appreciates the beauty and entertainment throughout the Cedar Village campus. “The community itself is gorgeous,” he said. “Clean and serene. There’s a nice little gazebo to relax in. There are pools for therapy and fun, not to mention all the other entertainment — bingo, trivia tournaments, live music, and much more.”
The community is like a small town where residents can stay and enjoy all sorts of activities. But at the end of the day, the people at Cedar Village enrich Delia’s life the most.
“I am very fond of all my nurses and aides as well as my therapists,” he said. “They have become my second family. I’m glad I picked Cedar Village as my place to call home.”
